Islamic Jamiat Party Condemns Killing of Residents in Takhar and Badakhshan

The Islamic Jamiat Party, led by Salahuddin Rabbani, has strongly condemned the killing of residents in the provinces of Takhar and Badakhshan following clashes with gold miners affiliated with the Taliban administration, describing it as a blatant violation of local people’s rights.

On Thursday, January 7, the party issued a statement declaring that the indigenous people’s protests against the plundering and illegal extraction of gold mines are their legitimate and lawful rights. The statement emphasized that there is no justification for the violent suppression of these protests.

The statement added that the Taliban administration, by looting natural resources and damaging the environment, has extended its oppression beyond social, cultural, and political spheres, now harming Afghanistan’s nature and environment. The Islamic Jamiat Party stressed that the Taliban treat the country’s mines, especially in Takhar and Badakhshan, as war booty.

The party warned that the killing of local residents will not silence the protests but will instead fuel public hatred and strengthen the people’s resistance against the Taliban administration. The statement also noted that the Taliban have no legitimacy or credibility among the people of Takhar and Badakhshan and will ultimately face the anger and demand for justice from the Afghan people.

Meanwhile, the Taliban administration confirmed that three people were killed following clashes between gold miners affiliated with the group and local residents in Chah Ab district of Takhar. According to reports, residents of this district had protested four days earlier against the illegal extraction of gold mines.
