China Announces Expansion of Security Cooperation with Pakistan Amid Rising Concerns

China has declared its full readiness to expand security cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in combating terrorism and cybercrime. This stance was expressed during a meeting between China’s Minister of Public Security and Pakistan’s Interior Minister.
Wang Xiaohong, China’s Minister of Public Security, emphasized in his meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, that both countries should intensify their joint efforts to effectively manage security threats and challenges to ensure national security and social stability in both nations.
These remarks came as Mohsin Naqvi announced during the same meeting Islamabad’s plan to establish a special force dedicated to protecting Chinese citizens in Pakistan. This move responds to growing concerns from Beijing.
In recent years, armed groups have repeatedly targeted Chinese citizens working on major infrastructure projects in Pakistan—projects largely financed by Beijing and of key importance to Pakistan’s economy.
Some regional analysts believe the Pakistani government’s mismanagement of security crises has fostered insecurity, which it then attempts to control by launching new initiatives and forces. This approach is viewed primarily as serving Pakistan’s political and economic interests.
