Afghan Health Minister Stresses Domestic Medicine Production as Key to Solving Pharma Challenges

The Taliban’s Minister of Public Health has stated that resolving the existing problems in Afghanistan’s medicine sector is impossible without utilizing domestically produced drugs. He made these remarks during a meeting with representatives of the private health sector while sharing the Ministry’s monitoring results.

Nur Jalal Jalali emphasized that strengthening domestic medicine production can reduce Afghanistan’s dependence on imports and provide more sustainable access to medicines. According to him, using local products not only helps stabilize the market but is also vital for the health sector’s growth.

This comes as health sector activists have repeatedly pointed out that the lack of clear supportive policies, economic challenges, and weak effective oversight have hindered the real growth of domestic medicine production in the country. Despite the Taliban administration officials’ emphasis on domestic production, tangible practical measures and supportive initiatives to address the structural challenges of this sector have yet to be seen.
