Pakistan Plans Special Security Force to Protect Chinese Nationals Amid Rising Attacks

Pakistan has announced plans to establish a special security force in its capital dedicated to protecting Chinese nationals and addressing security concerns related to their presence. According to Pakistani officials, this special force will carry out specific, targeted missions to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi discussed this initiative during a meeting with Wang Xiaohong, China’s Interior Minister, where both sides also talked about strengthening bilateral cooperation and security matters.
The proposal comes amid recent reports of attacks targeting Chinese nationals near the Afghanistan and Tajikistan borders, incidents that have caused concern among regional countries. The Taliban administration expressed regret over the killings of these Chinese citizens and claimed that some countries are attempting to exploit these events to damage the Taliban’s international relations.
Additionally, in recent months and years, attacks on Chinese nationals have been reported in parts of Pakistan, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. While some militant groups have claimed responsibility for certain attacks, a significant number remain unattributed.
Some security experts critically argue that the Pakistani government sometimes manages insecurity according to its political and economic interests and subsequently emphasizes these threats to create a pretext for establishing new security forces and projects—a viewpoint that remains a subject of debate both inside Pakistan and internationally.
