UNDP Launches Climate-Responsive Livelihood and Forestry Project in Badakhshan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced the launch of the “Climate-Responsive Livelihoods and Forestry Based on Community” project in Badakhshan province. The primary goal of this initiative is to strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods and enhance the resilience of local communities against the impacts of climate change.
According to the information released, the project is designed to focus on investing in rural infrastructure and aims to increase the capacity of vulnerable area residents to adapt to climate change. UNDP emphasized that the direct participation of local communities is a key element in the implementation of this program.
Badakhshan province, a mountainous region in Afghanistan, has faced challenges in recent years such as changing weather patterns, land degradation, and pressure on natural resources. The implementation of such projects can play a significant role in reducing the vulnerability of rural livelihoods.
However, the sustainable success of these programs depends on adaptive institutions having open access to areas, transparency in execution, and creating a safe environment for genuine local participation—issues that have consistently raised concerns in the current context of Afghanistan.
