Venezuela’s Attorney General Holds US Responsible for Maduro’s Security Amid Kidnapping Claims

Venezuela’s Attorney General condemned what he described as the “kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro,” stating that the United States government is directly responsible for the security of the country’s president and his wife and must be held accountable for any harm that befalls them.

Tarek Saab, in official remarks, called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to take a clear stance on this incident and not remain silent about its consequences. He emphasized that documenting human rights violations related to US operations must be seriously pursued by Venezuelan government bodies and the attorney general’s office.

The Venezuelan Attorney General referred to the removal and temporary detention of Hugo Chavez in April 2002 as a pivotal moment in the country’s political history and warned that a repetition of such scenarios could jeopardize Venezuela’s stability.

Saab also urged Venezuelan citizens to remain calm in the face of misinformation and fake news and to follow developments with vigilance. According to him, the spread of false information could be part of the psychological pressures coinciding with these events.

These statements came after Donald Trump, the current US president, claimed to have carried out a large-scale operation against Venezuela, announcing that Maduro and his wife had been arrested and taken out of the country—an assertion that drew sharp criticism from Caracas officials.

Venezuelan authorities have described Washington’s actions as an attempt to establish a puppet government and seize control of the country’s oil resources, escalating political tensions between the two sides into a new phase.
