Pakistan Army: Afghanistan Has Become a Terrorism Base Threatening Regional Security

The Pakistan Army spokesperson has stated that Afghanistan has turned into a base for carrying out terrorist operations against Pakistan, increasing security threats through this route. Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry made these remarks on Tuesday, January 6, during a press conference addressing the security situation in 2025.
According to Chaudhry, the international community has recognized Pakistan’s stance in the fight against terrorism. He emphasized that Islamabad expects the threats emanating from Afghan soil to the region to be seriously controlled.
Based on statistics provided by the Pakistan Army, a total of 5,397 terrorist incidents were recorded in the country in 2025. Of these, 3,811 incidents occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,557 in Balochistan, and 29 in other areas.
Chaudhry also stated that in the same year, 2,597 militants were killed in security operations, with the highest numbers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa followed by Balochistan. Additionally, he reported that 1,235 security personnel and civilians lost their lives.
These remarks come as Islamabad’s Security Studies Center previously described 2025 as the deadliest year for Pakistan. Meanwhile, critics argue that despite the Taliban’s stated commitments, their administration has failed to prevent armed groups from using Afghan territory, which has had serious consequences for regional security.
