Clashes Erupt Between Gold Mining Company and Locals in Takhar Province

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has confirmed a clash between a contracted gold mining company and local residents in Chah Ab district of Takhar province, resulting in casualties and financial losses.

Homayon Afghan, the ministry’s spokesman, said on Tuesday in an audio message to the media that the incident caused harm to the lives and property of both sides, but the exact details remain unclear.

He added that a provincial delegation has been assigned to investigate the incident thoroughly and will share the final findings with the media once the investigation is complete.

Local residents and observers have repeatedly criticized the lack of transparency in mining contracts, neglect of local community rights, and the security consequences of resource extraction. They warn that if these issues persist, they could lead to increased tensions in the country’s mining regions, highlighting the Taliban administration’s responsibility for accountability.
