Ahmad Shah Baba’s House in Kandahar Reopens to Tourists After Renovation

The Department for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, under the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture, announced that the restoration work on Ahmad Shah Baba’s house in Kandahar has been completed. The historic site officially opened to tourists on Tuesday.

According to information released by the ministry, the restoration process began about 17 months ago and cost approximately 17.5 million Afghanis. Officials said the funding was provided from the Ministry of Information and Culture’s internal budget.

Ahmad Shah Baba’s house is considered one of Kandahar’s historical symbols and was built in the Bukhara architectural style. The building consists of two floors and a basement, with a total of six large rooms and two smaller rooms.

While restoring such monuments is important for preserving the country’s cultural heritage, cultural experts emphasize that sustainable protection of historical sites requires transparency, specialized management, and regular public access—issues that have been questioned and raised concerns under Taliban administration in recent years.
