Medvedev Calls US Actions in Venezuela Illegal, Accuses Washington of Pursuing Oil Interests

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, described the United States’ actions towards Venezuela as illegal, emphasizing that these moves are not aimed at combating drug trafficking but rather at gaining access to oil resources.
Medvedev, citing American officials, stated that the alleged kidnapping of Venezuela’s president is unrelated to drugs, with the primary issue being oil—a fact that Washington officials have openly acknowledged, according to him.
Responding to President Donald Trump’s remarks that Washington could take over the administration of Venezuela, Medvedev said that the US is incapable of managing an independent country from afar.
The Russian Security Council deputy also warned that the US might attempt to repeat this approach concerning the Kyiv regime, adding that such policies align with Washington’s usual pattern of exerting control over other countries’ resources—a strategy he claims is also evident in the case of Ukraine’s rare mineral resources.
