Kim Jong-un Emphasizes Strengthening North Korea’s Nuclear Deterrent Amid Global Security Challenges
Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea, declared that recent developments on the international stage and the complex state of global security compel Pyongyang to enhance its nuclear deterrent capabilities more than ever before.
According to North Korean state media, he stated that recent geopolitical crises and rising tensions in the international system have made strengthening nuclear deterrent forces an urgent necessity for the country.
Kim Jong-un made these remarks during a weapons training exercise, explaining that the military drill aimed to assess the combat readiness of hypersonic weapons systems and to evaluate the mobility and effectiveness of North Korea’s deterrent forces.
The report noted that during this exercise, hypersonic missiles were launched from the Ryongsong area in Pyongyang and successfully struck designated targets approximately 1,000 kilometers away in the Sea of Japan.
