UN Chief Guterres Calls US Attack on Venezuela a ‘Dangerous Precedent’

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed grave concern over the United States’ attack on Venezuela and the abduction of its president, describing the incident as a dangerous act that threatens the international order.

Guterres urged all parties involved in Venezuela to engage in inclusive dialogue with full respect for human rights and the rule of law. He emphasized that resolving political crises must follow legal and peaceful channels.

Stephane Dujarric, the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, quoted Guterres as saying that these developments could set a dangerous precedent in international relations. According to him, the Secretary-General is deeply worried that principles of international law and the UN Charter may not have been upheld in these events.

According to reports, the United States launched an attack on Venezuela on Friday night, abducting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The move has faced widespread condemnation from several countries, which have described it as a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law.
