Severe Drought in Musa Qala Sparks Warnings of Forced Displacement

Residents of Musa Qala district in Helmand province have warned that ongoing consecutive droughts and a significant decline in groundwater resources have put the lives of thousands of families in the district at serious risk.
According to them, groundwater levels in many areas have dropped so low that it is no longer possible to supply drinking water and water for agriculture, placing the people under severe livelihood pressure.
Some residents say that several villages and areas, which were previously home to families, are now completely deserted due to the lack of water, forcing inhabitants to abandon their homes.
The people of Musa Qala are urging the Taliban administration to take practical measures to prevent the crisis from worsening. They call for the construction of a water dam on the Musa Qala river to enable residents to stay in their areas and avoid forced displacement. Residents believe that neglecting this issue could lead to broader social and humanitarian consequences.
