GPS Installation Begins on Thousands of Transport Vehicles Across the Country

The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced the installation of GPS devices on approximately 20,000 transport vehicles nationwide as part of a transportation system monitoring program.

According to the ministry, the aim of equipping these vehicles with GPS is to standardize transport vehicles and enhance the safety of passengers and commercial cargo transportation. Officials have emphasized that the process of installing GPS devices on freight trucks and passenger buses is ongoing in all provinces.

This initiative comes amid recent months during which the country’s main highways have experienced fatal traffic incidents, many of which have been attributed to speeding and lack of effective oversight.

The Taliban administration has mandated the installation of these devices to better control vehicle movements. However, transport experts argue that reducing traffic accidents cannot rely solely on technical equipment, stressing the need for clear law enforcement, driver education, and accountability of responsible institutions.
