Israeli Media Report Discussing Ground Operation in Lebanon Amid Hezbollah Threat

Israeli media have reported that officials in the country are considering plans for a ground operation in Lebanon, a move described as a response to what is called the ‘Hezbollah threat.’ According to the reports, this issue was also raised during a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump in Florida, where expanding attacks into Lebanese territory was discussed as one of the options. The reports claim that Hezbollah has been able to rebuild part of its military capabilities during the ceasefire period and that the Lebanese government has been unable to effectively control the group—a claim that has consistently been met with varied reactions within Lebanon. Israel’s public broadcasting corporation alleged that the US administration under Trump does not openly oppose Israeli military action against Hezbollah but has urged Netanyahu not to rush the plan in order to facilitate further dialogue with Beirut. In recent months, Israel has carried out limited strikes and exerted pressure on positions linked to Hezbollah in Lebanon. At the same time, the Lebanese government has announced efforts to control illegal weapons and monitor the activities of armed groups in various parts of the country. Hezbollah, while rejecting full disarmament, emphasizes its right to self-defense and views maintaining its military capacity as part of its deterrence strategy. Meanwhile, the ongoing situation has led analysts to warn of increasing tensions and the potential for conflict escalation along the Lebanon-Israel border.
