Rail Freight Transport in Afghanistan Rises by 18%, Says Ministry

Officials from the Ministry of Public Works under the Taliban administration have announced that the volume of goods transported by rail in Afghanistan has increased by 18 percent compared to last year, with this upward trend continuing.
According to the ministry, efforts to accelerate railway development projects within the country are ongoing, aiming to enable Afghans to use the rail network for cargo transport not only along international routes but also domestically.
The Ministry of Public Works states that expanding the railway system can reduce export and transportation costs, thereby allowing the private sector and residents to access goods at more affordable prices.
However, economic experts emphasize that achieving these goals requires transparent planning, sustainable investment, and effective management—issues that have faced serious challenges under Taliban rule in recent years and continue to be questioned by economic activists.
