Colombian President Explains U.S. Naval Attacks on Drug Boats

Gustavo Petro, the president of Colombia, stated that a significant portion of the fast boats targeted by the United States Navy were not carrying cocaine but rather shipments of marijuana.

According to reports, Petro referred to U.S. drug control policies, noting that marijuana is legal in several U.S. states, raising questions about the nature and intent of such military operations.

The Colombian president also added that Donald Trump, the current president of the United States, is under pressure from far-right factions, which has resulted in countries like Colombia and Venezuela being at the center of Washington’s hardline policies.

Petro’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about the effectiveness of U.S. security and military approaches in combating drugs in Latin America.
