Woman Freed After Eight Years of House Arrest in Samangan Province

Local sources in Samangan province report that a woman in Dara-e-Suf Bala district was rescued by local authorities after being held under forced house arrest for eight years. According to sources, she was imprisoned under difficult conditions by her family members in one of the district’s villages.

The Samangan provincial press office stated in a bulletin that the case was investigated after local officials became aware of it, leading to the woman’s release from house arrest. Following her rescue, she was immediately taken to the district clinic and subsequently transferred to Samangan provincial hospital for better medical care.

Local officials say the woman’s health condition is currently reported as satisfactory. However, no details have been provided regarding her psychological state or the long-term effects of her prolonged detention.

The source added that several individuals have been arrested in connection to this incident, and efforts to identify and apprehend other involved parties are ongoing. This case once again highlights concerns over the lack of effective mechanisms to support women and the weak oversight of human rights violations in areas controlled by the Taliban administration.
