UNICEF Calls for 2026 to Be a Year of Safety and Hope for Afghan Children

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), coinciding with the start of the new year, has expressed hope that 2026 will be a safe, peaceful, and hopeful year for all children in Afghanistan.
On Wednesday, January 1st, UNICEF emphasized on its official X social media page that the new year should provide the necessary conditions for learning, growth, and flourishing for all children, ensuring that no child is deprived of their basic rights.
UNICEF added that every child has the right to grow up in a safe and healthy environment and access education, proper nutrition, and healthcare—rights that, according to international organizations, have faced significant challenges for many Afghan children in recent years due to the prevailing situation and extensive restrictions.
Previously, UNICEF warned that over 11 million children in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance in 2026, a situation that increases the responsibility of the Taliban administration and the international community to provide at least the minimum rights and needs of these children.
