Kabul Municipality Installs 185 Road Signs Across 12 Districts to Improve Navigation

The Kabul Municipality, under Taliban administration, has announced the installation of 185 large road signs across 12 districts and key routes in the city of Kabul, including areas such as Deh Afghanan, Shahr-e Naw, and Darulaman Road.
According to officials from the municipality, this initiative is part of an official urban naming and signage program aimed at facilitating easier movement for city residents, especially taxi drivers and passengers.
Nematullah Barkzai, a municipal official, stated that in the second phase of this project, approximately 75 additional large signs will be installed on major and secondary roads in other city districts to expand the coverage of the program.
The municipality’s information further indicates that the installation of signs is not limited to main roads; street naming and signage for alleys and smaller roads are also ongoing, with this process now completed in 11 districts of the city.
Municipal officials have also noted that the newly named locations will be updated on Google Maps to facilitate easier digital access to these addresses.
Barkzai added that in the solar year 1404 (2025-2026), districts 1, 2, 8, 11, and 17 will be officially brought under full coverage of this program, and according to existing plans, the initiative will be extended to other districts in the coming years.
Some Kabul residents have welcomed this move, saying the lack of official signage in past years caused confusion among people, especially visitors from the provinces—an issue that this effort could help alleviate as part of the city’s longstanding address and navigation challenges.
