EU Calls for Immediate Halt to Israeli Settlements and Inclusion of Lebanon in Ceasefire Agreement

The European Union has called for an immediate halt to Israeli settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories and urged the inclusion of Lebanon within the framework of the recent ceasefire. The EU’s foreign policy chief welcomed the recent agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing that neglecting these issues could undermine regional stability.

Kaja Kallas, in recently released remarks, praised the role of Pakistan, Qatar, and other regional and international partners in facilitating the agreement. According to her, this deal could be an important step toward reducing tensions in West Asia, a region that has faced consecutive crises in recent years.

The senior European official described settlement building in the occupied Palestinian territories as a fundamental challenge to the peace process, underscoring the need for its immediate suspension. She also called for specific measures to prevent the import of goods produced in these settlements.

In another part of her statement, Kallas stressed that Lebanon must be formally included in the ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran. She believes Lebanon’s fragile situation is intertwined with broader regional developments, and ignoring it could have security consequences.

Some analysts interpret this stance as a sign of the European Union’s effort to adopt a more comprehensive approach to the crises in West Asia—an approach aimed at preventing the separation of the region’s political and security issues from one another.
