87 Kilometers of TAPI Gas Pipeline Prepared Up to Herat, Taliban Officials Announce

The Taliban-appointed leadership of Emirati companies managing the TAPI project in Afghanistan has announced that out of the total 153 kilometers of the TAPI gas pipeline in Afghanistan, 87 kilometers have been prepared up to the vicinity of Herat city.

Ahmad Jan Bilal, head of this administration, stated that following the operational arrival of the project to Herat, gas distribution will initially commence to industrial parks and electricity generation projects, and subsequently will be made available to ordinary residents.

Meanwhile, officials from the Afghan utility company Breshna have said that talks with Turkmenistan on finalizing the gas price are ongoing, and once this is clarified, practical work on establishing gas stations and electricity production will be planned.

The TAPI project, which aims to transport Turkmen gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, is considered one of the region’s major initiatives. However, despite repeated promises from the Taliban administration, progress on this project has been slow in recent years, and concerns remain regarding transparency, execution capacity, and ensuring real benefits for the Afghan people.
