Salang Highway Closed Due to Severe Storm and Heavy Snowfall

The Salang Highway has been completely closed to all passenger and freight vehicles since 3 a.m. today following a severe storm and heavy snowfall.
Mohammad Omar Omari, the district governor of Salang, told the media that the intensity of the storm and the significant increase in snowfall have made passage impossible. To prevent potential dangers, the route has been blocked.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works under the Taliban administration, confirmed the closure of this vital highway and stated that continuous snowfall is the primary reason for the decision.
Local officials have urged citizens to avoid attempting to travel on the Salang route until further notice, warning that continuing journeys under these conditions could seriously endanger travelers’ lives.
