Russia Sets Three Conditions for Resolving Ukraine Crisis

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, announced that Moscow has established three fundamental conditions as the basis for any political solution to end the Ukraine crisis and emphasizes their implementation.
According to Lavrov, Russia’s first condition is the recognition of the “new geographical realities,” which includes the current status of the Crimean Peninsula and the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Sevastopol, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Moscow believes Kyiv and its Western supporters must formally accept this.
The second condition calls for legally binding security guarantees, which, according to the Foreign Minister, should address the root causes of the Ukraine crisis and prevent its recurrence in the future. Within this framework, Moscow stresses Ukraine’s neutrality.
Lavrov added that, from Russia’s perspective, Ukraine should not become a member of any military alliance, must be free of nuclear and offensive weapons, and its territory should not be used for NATO military purposes. He also emphasized the need to combat what he referred to as “Nazi ideology.”
The Russian Foreign Minister claimed that the strategic initiative is fully in the hands of the Russian military and that Western countries are aware of this situation. He stated that Moscow’s objectives will be pursued and achieved both through political means and military action.
In conclusion, Lavrov said that Russia desires elections to be held in Ukraine and considers this part of its envisioned process for the country’s future.
