Chinese Citizen Converts to Islam in Badakhshan Amid Taliban-Controlled Ceremony

According to reports from Badakhshan, a Chinese citizen in the Shaki district of the province has converted to Islam in a ceremony attended by Mullah Juma Khan Fateh, the Taliban official responsible for the district’s border gates.
Local sources say the event took place in an area under Taliban control, with Mullah Juma Khan Fateh playing a central role. However, no official details have been released about the identity of the Chinese citizen or the exact process leading to this conversion.
This comes amid previous accusations against Mullah Juma Khan Fateh for using force to compel Ismaili residents in Badakhshan to change their religion, raising serious concerns about freedom of religion and belief in the region.
Social activists emphasize that any change of religion should be based on free choice without coercion. They warn that the continuation of such practices by the Taliban administration could constitute a clear violation of fundamental human rights.
