UN Representative Visits Remote Wakhan Corridor in Northeast Afghanistan

The United Nations announced that as part of its work plans for 2025, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, the Resident Coordinator, and the Humanitarian Coordinator have visited the Wakhan Corridor in northeast Afghanistan, a remote area that has always been difficult to access.
According to this information, Indrika Ratwatte met with local residents during this trip and directly listened to their concerns, needs, and perspectives. The purpose of this visit was to amplify the voices of communities that are often marginalized.
The United Nations emphasized that no community, even in the most remote parts of Afghanistan, should be overlooked, and that the organization’s programs must be designed based on the real needs of the people on the ground.
This comes amid many remote areas of the country facing shortages of basic services, limited access to humanitarian aid, and weak government response since the Taliban took control; an issue international bodies have repeatedly stressed requires more serious attention.
