Taliban Ministry Holds Talks with Iranian Firms on Panjshir-Kabul Water Transfer Project

The Taliban-led Ministry of Water and Energy has announced that Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, the minister of this department, met with a joint delegation from Iranian companies to discuss water projects in Afghanistan.
According to a published statement, during the meeting, representatives of the Iranian companies expressed their readiness to invest in the project of transferring water from Panjshir province to Kabul city; a project aimed at meeting part of the capital’s water needs.
The statement added that the Taliban’s Minister of Water and Energy asked the delegation to engage with the ministry’s technical team to facilitate the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and to proceed with subsequent steps accordingly.
Panjshir, one of Afghanistan’s mountainous provinces, has significant water resources. Over recent years, various proposals have been made to transfer water from Panjshir to Kabul, but many of these projects have not advanced to implementation due to a lack of transparency, administrative stability, and clear legal frameworks.
