Hezbollah Rejects Transition to Second Ceasefire Phase Amid Ongoing Israeli Attacks

Hezbollah Lebanon has rejected requests from some governments to unilaterally move to the second phase of the ceasefire, stating that Israeli attacks and military actions continue. This stance comes as tensions in southern Lebanon remain high and concerns about violations of agreements persist.

Ali Fayyad, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance faction in the Lebanese parliament, told Al-Akhbar newspaper that any political or diplomatic effort to achieve national rights without relying on elements of power, stability, and resilience will not succeed. He said the Lebanese government needs at least a minimal balance; neglecting this balance endangers the protection of sovereignty and national interests.

Referring to what he described as Israeli actions beyond laws and international agreements, Fayyad said this situation once again highlights the legitimacy and necessity of resistance according to Hezbollah’s beliefs. He stated that in the absence of alternative guarantees, the resistance exercises its natural right to self-defense and safeguarding Lebanon’s rights.

The senior Hezbollah member added that alternative proposals effectively mean abandoning Lebanon and surrendering to the enemy, which could lead to disastrous consequences. He emphasized that the request to move to the “second phase,” concerning the area north of the Litani River, is being made while Israel still occupies parts of southern Lebanon and prevents the Lebanese army from deploying.

Fayyad viewed the continuation of attacks and assassinations on Lebanese soil as evidence that Israel is not committed to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and stated that accepting unilateral commitments beyond this resolution is unacceptable. He concluded by stressing that Lebanon’s interests depend on strengthening internal unity and avoiding fueling divisions, as weakening the domestic front ultimately benefits the enemy.
