Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman Welcomes Taliban’s Support for Pakistani Religious Scholars’ Role in Kabul-Islamabad Ties

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, has welcomed recent statements by Taliban officials, including the foreign and interior ministers, emphasizing support for the advice and role of Pakistani religious scholars in improving relations between Kabul and Islamabad.

In a message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Fazl-ur-Rehman stated that the ruling authorities should positively accept and support the efforts of religious scholars aimed at enhancing Pakistan-Afghanistan relations and securing peace.

He further added that this process should be strengthened so that not only the bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries improve, but also Pakistan and the region can advance toward lasting peace and stability.

These remarks come amid heightened tensions and mutual distrust in recent months between Pakistan and the Taliban administration. The mediatory role of religious scholars has been seen by some circles as one of the few informal channels of dialogue; however, critics emphasize that without transparent and concrete actions by the Taliban administration, these efforts will not yield tangible results.
