Kabul Residents Complain Gas Prices Remain High Despite Government Supply

Residents of Kabul have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of price difference between government-supplied and private liquefied gas. Although Emirati companies distribute gas in various districts, the prices remain effectively the same, with no noticeable reduction.
According to these residents, the declared goal of the government gas distribution was to control inflation and assist citizens economically. However, in practice, this initiative has failed to alleviate financial pressures on families. They urge Taliban officials to enforce stricter oversight on distribution and pricing processes, ensuring real access to more affordable gas.
In response, the Emirati gas distribution companies emphasize that the primary aim of this program is to regulate liquefied gas prices, prevent market fluctuations, and offer gas at reasonable rates to the public. These companies report that government gas is currently sold through approximately 270 shops across Kabul.
This issue arises after the Northern Coal Emirati companies previously started distributing coal in Kabul and eleven other provinces at prices below market rates. That initiative was expected to serve as a model for price control, with more tangible benefits anticipated for citizens regarding liquefied gas as well.
