Egyptian Analyst: Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland Part of New Strategic Move

Samir Faraj, a former Egyptian military official and strategic analyst, stated that Israel, after realizing that solely relying on air defense systems at the port of Eilat is insufficient, has turned to recognizing Somaliland as a strategic option.

According to him, Israel faced significant pressure and restrictions through the Bab-el-Mandeb route during the 1973 war and in recent battles with Yemen’s Ansar Allah forces; a situation that revealed the regime’s vulnerability to maritime threats.

Faraj added that Tel Aviv, to counter threats targeting the port of Eilat, is seeking to establish a new foothold in the region and has introduced Somaliland as its new ‘card’ in the equation. Based on this analysis, Israel will next provide economic and military aid to Somaliland to strengthen its influence in this area.

The Egyptian analyst also warned that Benjamin Netanyahu, taking advantage of current conditions, is attempting to halt the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire and exploit the scenario of relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Somaliland; a move that, according to him, could affect control over the Bab-el-Mandeb entrance and ultimately the Suez Canal.

Faraj emphasized that such actions pose a direct threat to Egypt’s national security and that Cairo will take measures in the coming days to prevent Israel’s presence in the region and to stop the forced transfer of Palestinians.
