Winter Storm Causes Over 1,500 Flight Cancellations and Thousands of Delays Across the U.S.

A severe winter storm in the United States has led to the cancellation of more than 1,500 flights and delays for thousands more nationwide, according to reports.

Al Jazeera, citing the flight tracking website FlightAware, reported that by 4 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, a total of 1,581 flights within, to, or from the United States had been canceled, while 6,883 other flights faced delays.

According to the report, New York City airports – John F. Kennedy, Newark Liberty, and LaGuardia – have warned passengers of potential flight cancellations or delays. FlightAware data indicates that more than half of the total cancellations and delays were recorded at these three airports.

Among airlines, JetBlue led with 225 canceled flights, followed by Delta Air Lines with 212, Republic Airways with 157, American Airlines with 146, and United Airlines with 97 cancellations.

These disruptions come as the U.S. National Weather Service has issued warnings that the winter storm named “Dawne” could create hazardous travel conditions in parts of the Midwest and Northeast, accompanied by heavy snowfall.

Reports also show that over 40 million Americans are under weather warnings or advisories related to this storm. Additionally, about 30 million residents in California have received flood or storm warnings.
