Tajikistan Opens New Border Posts and Tank Training Ground Amid Security Concerns Along Afghan Border

Imomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan, has inaugurated four new security border posts and a “tank training ground” along the country’s border with Afghanistan, in response to rising concerns over border insecurity.
According to an announcement on the official website of the Tajik presidency, these facilities were opened remotely and simultaneously during the president’s visit to the Ministry of Defense. Tajik officials stated that the tank training ground is designed to train specialized forces and is equipped with modern military technology and equipment.
The statement added that extensive work to strengthen the border lines has been carried out over the past two to three years, and the Tajik government is committed to continuing these efforts. Imomali Rahmon emphasized that enhancing border forces and infrastructure will remain a priority.
The opening of these posts comes shortly after two Tajik border guards were killed in an attack originating from Afghan territory. The Tajik National Security Committee confirmed the incident and reported the deaths of three attackers.
Previous reports have also indicated the deaths of foreign citizens, including Chinese nationals, resulting from attacks launched from Afghan soil at the Tajikistan border. This issue has further heightened concerns about ongoing insecurity in areas bordering Afghanistan and the Taliban administration’s responsibility in controlling cross-border threats.
