Brother: Industrial Growth in Afghanistan Depends on Electricity

Mullah Abdul Ghani Brother, Deputy Economic Minister of the Taliban administration, during the inauguration of several electricity projects in Herat province, described the shortage of electricity as one of the fundamental needs for industrial growth in the country.

He stated that without stable access to electricity, the development of industries and the creation of job opportunities will face serious challenges. According to him, the Taliban administration has granted a five-year tax exemption to cold storage builders to encourage investment.

Brother also emphasized that the electricity company is obligated to supply the required power to industrial projects under all circumstances. He considered this matter part of the responsibilities of service institutions towards the private sector.

However, economic activists have repeatedly criticized the lack of a transparent plan, weak infrastructure, and instability of electricity services in the provinces; issues that, according to them, despite promises from Taliban officials, remain a serious obstacle to the growth of industry and the country’s economy.
