Over 3,500 Afghan Migrants Return from Iran and Pakistan in One Day

According to statistics released by the Taliban administration, more than 3,500 Afghan migrants were returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries Iran and Pakistan in a single day. The data shows that on Wednesday alone, 745 families, totaling 3,513 individuals, entered the country.

Mullah Hamdullah Fetrat, deputy spokesperson of the Taliban administration, shared this information citing the High Commission for Refugee Affairs. He stated that returnees entered Afghanistan through various routes. The Islam Qala crossing in Herat, Pul-e-Insaf in Nimroz, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, Bahramcha in Helmand, and Torkham in Nangarhar were named among these pathways.

According to him, out of the returning families, 627 families comprising 3,487 individuals were transferred to their main residential areas, and humanitarian aid was provided upon arrival to 660 families. Additionally, telecommunication companies distributed 714 SIM cards to the returning migrants.

The deputy spokesperson added that one day prior, another 3,610 Afghan migrants were returned from Iran and Pakistan. Meanwhile, civil society organizations and the families of migrants have repeatedly emphasized that the extensive return process, without ensuring work opportunities, shelter, and basic services, places heavy pressure on returnees and highlights the Taliban administration’s responsibility to sustainably address their situation.
