Urgent Aid Urged for Drought-Vulnerable Areas in Afghanistan

The National Disaster Preparedness Department, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), held a technical meeting to assess Afghanistan’s climate vulnerability, focusing on the impact of drought and the urgent needs of affected areas.

According to the department’s information, participants emphasized that several regions of the country have been seriously affected by drought and that without immediate assistance, the livelihoods of residents in these areas will face escalating challenges.

During the meeting, a representative from the International Organization for Migration stated that IOM is working to mitigate the negative effects of climate change in Afghanistan and considers addressing the needs of returnees as one of its key priorities.

In recent years, Afghanistan has faced increasing vulnerability due to climate change, consecutive droughts, and structural limitations in resource management. This situation highlights the need for enhanced coordination among responsible agencies and international organizations.
