Pashtun Tribal Council Urges Pakistan to Reopen Chaman Border Crossing Amid Prolonged Closure

A Pashtun tribal council composed of local elders has called on the Pakistani government to reopen the Chaman border crossing as soon as possible. The crossing has remained closed since October due to clashes, leaving thousands of travelers and freight vehicles stranded on both sides of the border.

According to Pakistani media reports, members of the council stated that the closure over the past two months has seriously disrupted trade and caused significant difficulties for the legal movement of citizens.

These reports indicate that thousands of people, despite holding valid travel documents, have been denied passage, while the validity of some documents has expired during the prolonged wait.

The tribal elders warned that the continuation of this situation not only causes economic losses but also raises serious humanitarian concerns. They emphasized the urgent need for the government to take immediate action to alleviate the suffering of residents and traders on both sides of the border.
