Digitalization of 1,420 Historical Artifacts Begins at Eastern Zone Museum in Nangarhar

The Information and Culture Directorate of Nangarhar Province has announced the launch of the digitalization process for 1,420 historical artifacts housed in the Eastern Zone Museum. This initiative aims to preserve these artifacts securely and ensure their accessibility for future generations.

According to officials from the directorate, the program is designed to protect archaeological treasures, facilitate standardized exhibitions, enhance scientific research, and transfer cultural heritage to the coming generations.

In a statement released by the directorate, it was mentioned that 3D digitalization of the historical artifacts has commenced under the guidance of the Taliban-led Ministry of Information and Culture. The process involves the precise recording of the physical and historical characteristics of the artifacts.

Cultural experts believe that digitalizing historical artifacts can play a vital role in preventing their destruction, trafficking, and loss of cultural memory. This concern has grown in recent years due to the lack of clear and sustainable cultural protection policies, which has alarmed both residents and cultural communities in the country.
