Urgent Call to Protect Afghan Journalists in Pakistan Amid Rising Threats

The organization “Nai in Exile” has expressed deep concern over the situation of Afghan journalists in Pakistan, urging Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to implement immediate measures to protect their lives and freedom. The group states that threats of arrest and deportation have severely restricted the lives and work of these journalists.

According to this warning, numerous Afghan journalists are effectively under house arrest and avoid free movement for fear of detention. The organization notes that some journalists even refrain from seeking medical care when ill, due to fears of arrest en route to hospitals.

The advocacy group also calls for the issuance of visas, security guarantees, and support for the families of journalists. It warns that deporting journalists back to Afghanistan could have serious consequences, as many returnees face direct threats from the Taliban administration, raising concerns over violations of freedom of expression.

These demands come amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration, during which Pakistan has intensified arrest and deportation processes against Afghans residing in the country and imposed stricter restrictions on them in various regions. This trend has led to significant humanitarian and media-related repercussions.
