UN Trust Fund Focuses on Economic Empowerment of Afghan Women
The United Nations Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan has announced that its main programs are centered on empowering women who contribute to their communities’ economic development by creating and expanding local businesses.
According to the fund, supporting local economies can simultaneously create job opportunities and increase women’s participation in the development process. This approach has gained particular importance given the extensive restrictions on women’s lives and activities in present-day Afghanistan.
The organization emphasizes that investing in small and local initiatives offers a practical way to maintain women’s connection to the economic cycle and enhance communities’ resilience against ongoing crises.
Critics observe that while the Taliban administration has imposed severe restrictions on women’s work, education, and social presence, the continuation of such programs by international entities could be one of the few remaining avenues to prevent the complete exclusion of women from the economy and social life.
