Trump Stresses Greenland’s National Security Importance and Appoints Special Envoy

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, reiterated his stance on Greenland, stating that Washington considers the island essential for national security reasons. He cited the presence of Russian and Chinese ships in the surrounding waters of Greenland as a primary factor behind this view, distinguishing it from the issue of mineral resources.
These remarks coincided with the appointment of Jeff Landry, the Governor of Louisiana, as the US Special Representative for Greenland affairs. Trump said Landry would be responsible for advancing his administration’s actions related to the matter. Following this appointment, Danish and Greenlandic officials once again criticized Washington’s interest in the island.
In another part of his comments, Trump referred to US foreign relations, saying he has a good relationship with Xi Jinping, the President of China. He also discussed the oil seized from tankers intercepted off the Venezuelan coast, stating that the United States would retain the oil and might sell it or use it to bolster its strategic petroleum reserves.
The US president issued a strong warning against Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, cautioning that any show of force against Washington would have serious consequences. He claimed that Maduro’s future in power depends on his own decisions. Trump also accused the President of Colombia of failing to curb drug production and called for the shutdown of drug manufacturing facilities in the country.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Trump said talks are ongoing and that if necessary, he would speak with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to stop the conflict. He added that the US is no longer sending money to Ukraine; instead, it sells military equipment to NATO, which pays for and decides how to use it.
