Taliban Transfers 241 Drug Addicts to Specialized Treatment Center in Kabul

The Taliban’s Anti-Narcotics Department under the Ministry of Interior has announced that 241 individuals addicted to drugs have been collected from various areas of Kabul city and transferred to a special medical center for addicts called ‘Omid’ for treatment.

According to the information provided, these individuals were identified during separate operations across different parts of the capital and were regularly transferred to this treatment center to receive medical care. The ‘Omid’ center is considered one of the designated facilities for treating addicts in Kabul.

However, health experts emphasize that gathering addicts without sustainable treatment programs, social rehabilitation, and post-treatment support cannot be a fundamental solution to the addiction problem. They point out that poverty, unemployment, and the lack of continuous health services are major factors contributing to the spread of addiction among urban residents.

Critics also note that the Taliban administration has so far failed to present a comprehensive and transparent plan for prevention, long-term treatment, and the reintegration of addicts into society. They warn that temporary measures increase the risk of individuals returning to the cycle of addiction.
