Over 3,500 Carats of Panjshir Emeralds Sold at Auction Under Taliban Administration

The Information and Culture Directorate of Panjshir province, operating under the Taliban administration, has announced the sale of 3,544 carats of emeralds extracted from the province through an official auction, fetching a price of 3,644,310 Afghanis.

According to the directorate’s statement, the auction took place on Tuesday with the participation of several domestic traders and investors. Representatives from the Mine Protection Committee also attended the sales process.

The statement added that a Chinese investor participated in the auction as an observer, underscoring the continued interest of foreign investors in Panjshir’s emerald mines.

However, experts emphasize that transparency in the extraction, auction process, and revenue usage of the mines is crucial, especially under current conditions, to respond to residents’ demands and prevent the exploitation of Afghanistan’s natural resources.
