Pakistan Signs Over $4 Billion Arms Deal with Libya’s National Army Amid UN Embargo

Reuters has reported that Pakistan has signed an arms contract worth more than four billion dollars with Libya’s National Army, an agreement reportedly finalized in the city of Benghazi.
According to the report, Pakistani security sources stated that the deal was signed between Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, and Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander of Libya’s National Army.
The contract comes despite the United Nations imposing an arms embargo on Libya since 2011 due to ongoing civil wars and instability, a development that could provoke extensive international reactions.
Libya’s National Army has confirmed the agreement, but as of the report’s publication, the Pakistani government has not issued any official statement regarding the deal.
Currently, Libya is divided between two rival administrations: one in the west supported by the United Nations, and another in the east and south controlled by the National Army, which does not recognize the legitimacy of the UN-backed government.
