Over 2,000 Afghan Migrants Return in One Day Amid Continued Expulsions

According to an official report, more than two thousand Afghan migrants expelled from Iran and Pakistan entered Afghanistan through several border crossings in a single day. This information was released by the Deputy Spokesperson of the Taliban administration.
Mullah Hamdullah Fetrat, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Taliban administration, announced through a report by the Commission for Refugee Affairs that on Monday, 420 families totaling 2,167 individuals were repatriated to the country. According to him, these people entered Afghanistan via the Islam Qala crossing in Herat, the Silk Bridge in Nimroz, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, Bahramcha in Helmand, and Torkham in Nangarhar.
The report further states that another 512 families, comprising 2,777 individuals, have been transferred to their main residential areas, and 625 families have received humanitarian assistance. Additionally, telecommunications companies distributed 466 SIM cards among the returnees.
This comes a day after 3,926 other Afghan migrants were returned from Iran and Pakistan. The ongoing mass expulsions and lack of a clear program for sustainable support of returnees once again raise questions about the Taliban administration’s responsibility in providing shelter, employment, and essential services for the returning migrants.
