Egypt Signals Possible Start of Gaza Ceasefire Phase Two in January

Egypt’s Foreign Minister announced that Cairo, cooperating with friendly countries, is striving to initiate the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible; a phase that Egypt considers crucial in reducing tensions.
Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, told the media that achieving this phase requires significant steps, including the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, addressing issues related to arms restrictions, deploying international forces, and establishing a peace council alongside a Palestinian administrative committee to manage the Strip.
He emphasized that discussions and consultations on the matter are ongoing and expressed hope that the second phase of the ceasefire will be implemented in the coming January, allowing the Palestinian committee to be stationed in Gaza.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also pointed to daily violations of the ceasefire terms in Gaza, stating that to prevent the continuation of this situation, the presence of international forces is necessary to identify and control those responsible for these breaches; a matter that observers see as highlighting the fragility of the current ceasefire agreement.
