UN Reports Myanmar as World’s Largest Opium Producer in 2025

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has reported that Myanmar remains the world’s largest illegal opium producer, with a significantly high production level in 2025.

According to the report, Myanmar’s estimated opium production this year has reached 1,010 tons, a figure more than double the opium output estimated for Afghanistan during the same period.

The UN agency warned that if global demand for narcotics increases, this trend in Myanmar is likely to continue, which could have widespread consequences for public health, regional security, and global efforts to combat drug trafficking.
