Kremlin Calls Zelensky’s Remarks on Elections Contradictory

The Kremlin spokesperson has described Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements about holding elections as contradictory, labeling them a sign of confusion in Kyiv’s stances.
Dmitry Peskov, citing the TASS news agency, stated that Zelensky on one hand insists he will not allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to interfere in Ukraine’s elections, while simultaneously seeking help from the United States to conduct the elections.
According to Peskov, this position reveals that the Ukrainian president opposes American interference but does not accept Russian involvement—a situation the Kremlin views as indicative of an unclear and inconsistent stance.
Volodymyr Zelensky’s presidential term ends on May 20, 2024, but Ukrainian officials, citing the continuation of martial law, have postponed holding elections.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently said that between five to ten million Ukrainian citizens live in Russia and that if elections are held in Ukraine, provisions should be made for these individuals to vote as well.
