Israel Moves to Pass Strict New Law to Prosecuted Al-Qassam Brigades Fighters

According to an Israeli newspaper report, Israeli officials are seeking to pass a new and stringent law under which special forces of the Al-Qassam Brigades would be prosecuted on serious charges, completely eliminating any possibility of their release.

The Palestine Information Center reports that the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth wrote that this law targets forces responsible for holding Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip and subjects them to prosecution on par with operatives involved in the events of October 7.

According to the provisions of this draft law, anyone convicted under the framework of the October 7 events will remain in prison permanently, and this ban explicitly includes any possible prisoner exchange agreements.

Another section of the law emphasizes that there will be no obligation to provide defense attorneys or legal representation for these defendants, a matter that human rights organizations view as potentially violating the principles of fair trial.

The report also added that the trial sessions of the special forces of the Al-Qassam Brigades will be made available to the public either live or recorded via a dedicated website, a move that has heightened concerns over the potential use of the trial process for political and propaganda purposes.
