Bus Overturns on Northern Salang Highway, Six Dead and Dozens Injured

A passenger bus type 580 overturned on the northern Salang highway in Baghlan province, resulting in six fatalities and 42 injuries. The incident occurred on Saturday night, December 19, in the Gulae Panj area.
According to local Taliban administration officials in Baghlan, the road was slippery due to heavy snowfall and severe icy conditions, which caused the accident. They added that the condition of five of the injured remains critical.
Based on the information provided, the bodies of the deceased and all the injured have been transferred to medical centers for treatment. Bakhtar News Agency reported that the bus was traveling from Pul-e-Khumri city towards Kabul.
This accident comes amid continued snowfall on the Salang routes. Drivers had previously been urged to exercise greater caution while traveling. However, the lack of effective traffic management, narrow roads, insufficient warning signs, and weak Taliban oversight of the country’s vital highways continue to pose serious risks to passengers during the winter season.
